Civility and Respect are guiding principles that impact every aspect of the workplace. A climate where every stakeholder treats one another with civility and respect enables the organization to function at optimum levels of productivity. Unfortunately, the rise of disrespectful behaviors in workplace and education settings is at epidemic levels, and the result is a steady erosion in morale and productivity. This session provides strategies for participants to recognize and handle offensive, disrespectful and inappropriate behaviors. The session also focuses on how to improve morale, productivity, and effectiveness by fostering a culture of civility and respect.
This session is designed to provide the participants with strategies and techniques for interacting with individuals that present challenging behaviors. In our rapidly changing workplace there are new, different, and more frustrating behaviors to manage and re-direct. This reality complicates a leader and a manager’s job, and is distracting to the ongoing mission, and workflow, of the organization. Compounding this layer of difficulty is the fact that there are more generations working together in the workplace, than any other time in history. Generational concerns and differences can often be misinterpreted as challenging or difficult behaviors. This is one more reason to explore the concepts in this session. Leaders and managers often believe that the words “challenging” or “difficult” imply angry and/or aggressive employees, customers, students, or parents. Our participants will learn the many different types of behavior that can be crippling to an organization, and our participants will find new ways of communicating to maximize employee performance, and customer interaction/satisfaction, on a daily basis. Conflict Resolution is practitioner-based and strongly emphasizes the practical application of the session material. Our participants will leave the session with specific action steps and strategies that can be immediately utilized in the workplace. The session is packed full of practical tips, and techniques, that will help our participants to confidently, and competently, lead and manage in challenging environments. Session learning objectives include: (1) Participants will be able to identify the major groupings of difficult behavior and the underlying source of problematic behaviors, (2) Participants will be able to determine the appropriate strategy to use when confronting difficult situations. This learning objective is of special value if conflict and confrontation are difficult for program participants on a personal level, (3) Participants will learn techniques for communicating effectively in difficult situations. Participants will also be able to create an accountability plan for coaching the desired employee behavior to effect change.
